For this double-production of The Maids, the play was performed back-to-back, with an all-female cast followed by an all-male cast in one sitting. Each cast performed completely different stagings and cuttings of the text with key overlaps in text and props repeated for emphasis. This doubling highlighted compelling differences between casts and amplified and echoed resonances in the text. The two performances together created a full hearing of the text.
